On the last day of the RBC Canadian Open, on the St. George’s Golf Course layout, spectators were treated to a breathtaking display of golfing excellence. However, Rory McIlroy ascended to the lead courtesy of an eight-under-par round of 62, claiming his 21st PGA Tour victory.

The Northern Irishman took a subtle go at Greg Norman by stating, “one more than someone else” after his victory. The four-time Major champion, however, defended his championship for the first time in his career with absolute class and maturity.

The fact that Rory McIlroy birdied eight of his first 12 holes could have led one to believe he would glide to victory with six holes remaining. However, the 33-year-old made two bogeys on the 13th and 16th holes as his playing partners Justin Thomas and Tony Finau pursued him.

On Sunday, scoring was extraordinarily low, as seen by Justin Rose, who, after two eagles, seven birdies, five pars, and two bogeys, required a par on the final hole to record the thirteenth 59 on the PGA Tour.

The trio was putting on a great exhibition for those in attendance at Torrey Pines. Rose was unable to get up and down after hitting a massive flyer.

None of the players in the final group shot worse than 64, with McIlroy’s 62 being the decisive factor in his 21st PGA Tour victory.
