According to the PGA Tour, Bart Bryant, a three-time PGA Tour winner who beat Tiger Woods down the stretch to win two of them, died in a car accident on Tuesday.
The tragedy happened in Florida while Bryant and his wife Donna were going from Atlanta to their home in Winter Garden, according to the information available.
Bryant, who won all three of his titles after the age of 40, after working on mini-tours for over two years and overcoming injuries and repeated journeys through the Tour’s national qualification process, was one of 12 brother pairings to win on the Tour.
At the age of 41, he won the Texas Open at the La Canterra Country Club in San Antonio, where he recorded a third-round 60 on his route to victory in his 187th PGA Tour start.
He won two major tournaments in 2005: The Memorial (which is being played this week in Dublin, Ohio) by one stroke over Fred Couples and four strokes over Tiger Woods, and the Tour Championship at East Lake by six strokes over Woods, shooting a course-record 62 in the first round.
It was the greatest margin of defeat Woods has ever experienced in a second-place finish.
Three years later, Woods repaid the favour by winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational by one stroke with a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole.
Bryant and his brother were born in Texas but grew up in New Mexico, where they became celebrities in junior golf and the mini-tour.
Brad Bryant was a two-time All-American at New Mexico State but struggled after that, having to qualify for the Tour six times and dealing with shoulder and elbow issues.

He has two PGA Tour Champions victories, the most recent in 2018 at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open.
Bryant had five top-25 finishes on the PGA Tour Champions in 2019 and one top-20 finish in four 2020 events. Since then, he hasn’t played a full schedule.
Bryant leaves behind a brother, a wife, two daughters, Kristen and Michelle, and two stepchildren.
In a statement, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said, “The PGA TOUR is grieved by the unfortunate passing of Bart Bryant, and our sympathies go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
“For almost four decades, the Bryant family has been a part of the PGA TOUR family, and we are grateful for the effect and legacy he has left on our organisation and countless communities.”
“Bart will be missed greatly,” he concluded.
