Andy Ruiz Jr. stated his desire to fight Deontay Wilder following his September victory over Luis Ortiz.

Since his rematch loss to Anthony Joshua in 2019, the Mexican heavyweight boxing champion has been seeking to regain momentum in his career. Ruiz Jr. overcame Chris Arreola in 2016 despite a subpar performance, and he will attempt to move even further in September when he faces Luis Ortiz.

When questioned about his plans by FightHype, Ruiz Jr. stated: “We’re training hard. If I win [against Ortiz], I would want to fight Wilder if he comes out of retirement. Wilder was kind of saying that he didn’t want to come back and make more money outside of the ring than inside the ring.

“That kind of showed that he doesn’t really want to and I don’t blame him. All the hard work and dedication that he has put in over the years. He accomplished a lot and was a champion for so many years. I can’t blame him.”

Alongside Andy Ruiz Jr., numerous rivals, including Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker, will try to advance in the standings to position themselves for a title challenge.
