Domenico Vicini of San Marino is approaching the age of 51, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming the first man to appear in 100 Davis Cup matches, and he has pledged to continue playing.

Vicini, who is 50 years and 11 months old and currently competing in Europe Group Four in Baku, became the oldest player to win a Davis Cup match in a doubles rubber against Albania earlier this week.

On Friday, in his 100th match, Vicini and 17-year-old Simone De Luigi lost their doubles against Iceland, but San Marino won 2-1 overall to advance to Saturday’s promotion play-off against Azerbaijan.

“It’s a great achievement for me. It’s been a long journey, but from the beginning, I have been able to travel to so many places and see so many things,” said Domenico Vicini, who made his debut in 1993.

“I don’t know when I will stop. I will continue to play as long as I can.”
