Andrews beat Mitchell by just 0.003 seconds to win the first race in the sprint final.

Andrews beat Mitchell by just 0.003 seconds to win the first race in the sprint final. Then, he sped past Mitchell, a Canadian who had a strong start, to win gold.

Andrews, who is 22 years old, has already had a great Olympics. On Friday, he led New Zealand to a gold medal in the team sprint, and he was on the team that won silver in the team pursuit.

“The results of the last two days will take some time to sink in. I’m excited and happy to have some of my family and a lot of my friends here right now. This is a very happy time, “Andrews said.

“My grandma and grandpa love to watch races, but they couldn’t make it to Tokyo, so this is the first time I’ve won an elite race in front of them. I can’t even describe how special it is to be able to go and give them a big hug afterward.”

Emma Finucane, a Welsh teen, won the bronze medal by beating Sophie Capewell, an English teen, after falling behind by one point.

Botha won gold by beating Maeve Plouffe of Australia by more than eight seconds. She set a new Games Record in the process.

Botha came in second with a time of 3:18.456. Scotland’s Neah Evans beat Australia’s Sarah Roy to win the bronze medal.

Botha said, “Everyone in the Commonwealth wants to win a gold medal at the Games.”

“It feels so strange to be the best in the Commonwealth. I’m so glad to be a part of it because it’s so cool.

“It’s just unbelievable. I’ve never been anywhere where it was so loud. It’s awesome.”
