Roger Binny, a former cricketer for India and World Cup champion in 1983, has taken over as head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in lieu of Sourav Ganguly (BCCI).

Binny, who was chosen for the position during the BCCI Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, will serve as the organization’s 36th chief.

Over the course of his career, which spanned from 1979 to 1987, Binny played in 27 Tests and 72 One-Day Internationals. In contrast, he averaged 34 with the bat in first-class cricket and claimed 205 wickets in 136 games.

The right-armer was a significant player in his team’s successful World Cup campaign in 1983, with 18 wickets.

Supporters of the former captain Ganguly had previously asserted that he had been fired because he refused to join the dominant political party.

Ganguly, 50, is reported to have declined to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is the government (BJP).

The country’s home minister, Amit Shah, paid Ganguly a visit earlier this year. In recent months, media conjecture about Ganguly’s political affiliation has been a common occurrence.

The top court in India recently changed a regulation that prohibited sporting officials from serving successive terms in the same position, allowing Shah’s son Jay, the BCCI secretary, and Ganguly to apply for re-appointment.

The BJP has denied involvement in the impending board vote and charged their rivals with politicking the situation.

Sourav Ganguly is a legendary cricketer. The BCCI changes are currently causing some people to cry crocodile tears, according to the party’s vice-president Dilip Ghosh.
