After two rain delays turned the game into a 48-overs-per-side contest, Head and Warner put up a 269-run stand, the biggest opening partnership at the MCG, as Australia collected 355-5, the highest total at the ground.

When they came back, spinner Adam Zampa (4-31) led England’s rout as the visitors were bowled out for 142 in 31.4 overs while chasing a revised total of 364 using the Duckworth-Lewis method, suffering their biggest loss in the 50-over format.

Only 10,406 spectators were present at the stadium’s capacity of 100,000 on a day when batting records were broken at the MCG.

In his maiden series in charge of the Australia ODI team, Pat Cummins stated of the three games, “It’s been wonderful, all three.”

“Everything has really come together; the hitters have been outstanding, and the bowlers are all eager to bowl.”

“Good to end it off here, that’s probably the best ODI I’ve ever played in,” said the player.

Australia, who had earlier been given the opportunity to bat, got off to a flying start, with Head and Warner savouring the constant stream of short-of-length deliveries by England’s tired attack.

With a four off Chris Woakes, Head sped to a 91-ball hundred, his third in one-day internationals, and went on to make a career-best 152 that included four sixes and 16 fours.
