The Croatian defender Josip Juranovic, who has been a standout for Croatia at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, believes that his generation of players could be regarded as heroes, just like Davor Suker and his teammates. Croatia is back in the World Cup semifinals, just like they did in 2018 and before that in 1998.

In their first FIFA World Cup appearance, the 1998 team came in third. The 1998 team is Croatian football’s biggest draw, despite the fact that the 2018 team reached the final and lost to France.

Well, those athletes have demonstrated to us what it means to stand up for Croatia. Simply put, we are putting them here. I believe that like them, we also want to accomplish something that will leave a lasting impression. We are really eager for that game versus Argentina because of this.

Even if the realisation that they had defeated Brazil to go to the semifinals has not yet fully set in, Juranovic claimed that he and his teammates are aware of their achievements.

“I’m just able to speak for myself, but it hasn’t really hit in yet. My heart immediately thrills when my parents send me footage from Dubrava, the hometown of Bruno (Petkovic) and me. But I believe we won’t really comprehend what we have accomplished for our nation and people until we return to Croatia,” Juranovic said in an interview with FIFA.

The talented Croatian defeated Vinicius Jr. after playing the game of his life against Brazil.

He will now attempt to accomplish the same feat against Lionel Messi of Argentina.
