  • Sergi Bruguera, a former world number three, has “mutually agreed” to step down as captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team
  • the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) announced on Monday.
  • Since 2017, Bruguera, who won the French Open back-to-back in 1993 and 1994, has served as the team’s coach

The 51-year-old used a tough Rafael Nadal to win the inaugural national team championship in its new format in 2019.

The Davis Cup tweeted good luck wishes for him as well.

“Best of luck to Sergi,” it wrote

However, this year he was forced to compete without the top two players in the world, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, and Spain was ousted in the quarterfinals.
