In the third-place playoff at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Croatia defeated the Atlas Lions by a score of 2-1, preventing Morocco from being the first African team to win a medal at the World Cup and writing history in the process.

One of the players of the tournament, defender Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring with an early header off of a well-worked set piece. He was named one of the players of the tournament.

Achraf Dari of Morocco scored an equalising goal for his team from a free kick they had earned 112 seconds into the match. Orsic’s outstanding effort with the curling stick gave Croatia the lead going into halftime, and they were able to defend it resolutely in the second half.
