David Warner had reservations about his ability to continue playing Test cricket before his double-century against South Africa, but he stated he is as determined as ever to win in India and England.

Warner was the great talking point heading into his 100th Test at the MCG, but he silenced all doubt, including that in his own mind, by striking his maiden Test century in nearly three years and playing one of the finest innings of his career to win the Johnny Mullagh award as Player of the Match.

Warner hadn’t hit 50 in his previous 10 Test innings, and he said doubts had crept into his head despite his public stance that he was just out of runs and out of luck, not out of form.

“Did anyone have doubts? “Sure, I had some doubts,” Warner said after Australia won by an innings on day four. “But for me, it was more important to just go out there and know that I still had that hunger and determination, because I still have it every time I show up for training. People keep telling me that I’ll know when it’s time, but I haven’t felt anything like that yet. I’m still enjoying it.

“I still know what I can bring to the team in terms of energy. I think I’ll know it’s time when I stop being excited about training and taking people’s jokes and pranks in stride.
