Though he has yet to kick a ball at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is frequently brought up in questions about French coach Didier Deschamps.

The former captain who is now the coach of the Les Blues was questioned on Saturday about the striker who was initially listed in the 26-member squad but was injured and was unable to travel to Qatar but has since resumed training with his club team.

When questioned about the possibility of injured player Karim Benzema making a surprise debut in Sunday’s championship game, Deschamps responded, “I don’t like answering this particular issue.

“I’ve had 24 players since that injury and Lucas Hernandez’s injury in the first game, and those are the players I have available to me.

“Asking about the players who aren’t here is unfair to those players. Who comes to watch the game is not up to me. My attention is on the 24-player squad I have, and tomorrow, I will have those players available. The question of whether Argentina will have more support in the final than France and what effect that might have on the outcome was then put to Deschamps.

“There will be a lot of celebration. They are ardent supporters of their team and exhibit great passion for what they do.

But tomorrow, instead of watching from the stands, our opponents will be on the field, and only one team will leave the field with three stars on their jersey. When asked about the future of his position as manager of France, he responded, “Being the manager of France has been the most fantastic thing that has happened to me in my career. I still have the same enthusiasm for the job as I did when I was younger,” the 54-year-old stated.

“I am honoured to coach France. The team is what matters most. As I have been for the past ten years, I am available to the group. The team is more significant than I am in this situation.

“The outcome of tomorrow won’t determine my future. I’m not even considering the future right now.
