KARACHI: Pakistan lost three wickets quickly in their second innings on the third day of the final Test of the series against England on Monday.

After England took a narrow 50-run lead in the first innings on Sunday, the home team wants to set a goal that will be hard to reach.

Jack Leach, a spin bowler, took all three wickets that fell in the morning session.

Shan Masood, who was 24, was the first player to go out. A ball struck the bottom edge of his bat and struck his leg stump.

In the same over, Leach also got Azhar Ali out for a duck. This was Ali’s last Test match.

Leach caught Abdullah Shafique (26) in front of the stumps with the first ball of his next over.

Yesterday, England’s innings got back on track thanks to Harry Brook’s third century in as many Tests. On the second day, Pakistan had the visitors pinned down.

Brook’s innings gave England a 50-run lead before they were bowled out for 354 and Pakistan narrowed the margin to 29.

Pakistan’s openers Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood concluded the day on the 14 and 3, respectively.

When the visitors were at 145-5, Brook’s 111 gave them a chance to become the first team ever to win a 3-0 series sweep in Pakistan.

After winning by 74 runs in Rawalpindi and by 26 runs in Multan, England is 2-0 in the three-game series.

After Pakistan’s spinners got rid of the top five English batsmen, Brook and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes scored 117 runs together to bring England close to Pakistan’s first-innings score of 304.

Brook hit spinner Abrar Ahmed for his eighth boundary to get to the third hundred of his career. This came after he scored 153 and 108 in the first and second tests, respectively.

Brook, who is 23 years old, said after the game that his goal for the tour was to get two centuries.

Brook, who played for Pakistan Super League champion Lahore this year, said, “I said to one of my mates I´d like to get two before I got here, so it feels very nice to go one better.”

Brook said that the key to his important sixth wicket partnership was to stay at the crease.

“Ben (Foakes) didn´t look like he was going to get out. We just knocked it around for as long as we could. We were just trying to build a partnership.”
