The Atlas Lions of Morocco were denied the opportunity to make history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after Croatia defeated them in the third-place playoff with a score of 2-1. This result prevented Morocco from becoming the first African team to win a medal at the World Cup.

Josko Gvardiol, a defender for the team and one of the tournament’s most outstanding players, got the scoring started with an early header off of a well-worked set piece. It was announced that he would be participating in the competition in some capacity.

Morocco’s Achraf Dari scored the goal that brought his team even 112 seconds into the game by taking advantage of a free kick that had been awarded to them. Orsic’s extraordinary performance with the curling stick gave Croatia the advantage going into halftime, and they were able to defend it doggedly in the second part of the match.

Lineups:

Croatia: Livakovic; Sutalo, Gvardiol, Stanisic, Perisic; Kovacic, Modric, Majer; Orsic, Livaja, Kramaric.

Morocco: Bonou; Hakimi, Dari, El Yamiq, Attiyat-Allah; Amrabat, Sabiri, El Khannouss; Ziyech, Boufal, En-Nesyri.
