Kelis Ndhlovu to lead Zimbabwe in ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup
The Zimbabwe Under-19 Women’s squad for the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa from January 14 to 29, 2023, has been confirmed by Zimbabwe Cricket.
All-arounder Kelis Ndhlovu, who has senior-level international experience, will lead the team.
Ndhlovu won the most wickets at the United Arab Emirates-hosted ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022 in September. Her batting prowess was also on display during her first tour with the seniors, when she contributed to an unbroken opening stand for 158 runs against Namibia in April.
The speed bowler Michelle Mavunga is another senior-level player on Trevor Phiri’s Zimbabwe Under-19 Women’s team.
The roster of 15 that is going to South Africa for the first event includes the Ndiraya twins, Kay and Kelly.
The 16 nations competing in the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 are split up into four groups of four, with the top three teams from each group moving on to the Super Six stage, which will feature two pools.
The semifinals will include the top two teams from each of the Super Six leagues, and the championship game will be played on January 29.
Zimbabwe is in Group B with Rwanda, England, and Pakistan.
All Group B games will take place at Potchefstroom, a university town in South Africa’s North West region that is located around 120 kilometres southwest of Johannesburg.
On January 15, Zimbabwe will play England at the JB Marks Oval in their opening match of the competition.
Prior to playing Pakistan at the same location on January 19 in their last group encounter, Zimbabwe will play Rwanda on January 16 at the North West University Oval.
