At the United Cup, held here on Friday, Harriet Dart defeated Maddison Inglis 6-4, 6-4 to help Britain upset Australia.

Team Britain will lead Group D after this victory and get ready to take on Spain.

After victories in straight sets by Cameron Norrie and Katie Swan on Day 1, Britain had a 2-0 advantage over the host country going into Day 2. Dart, who is ranked 98th and is the No. 1 player for Britain, seized the opportunity to break the tie by earning the prized third point to establish an unstoppable 3-0 advantage.

No.180 After Australian No. 1 Ajla Tomljanovic withdrew from the competition due to a left knee injury, Inglis was a last-minute replacement in the singles event. Kubler stole the show in front of a boisterous crowd on the Ken Rosewall Arena by defeating Evans in 1 hour, 51 minutes while demonstrating an abundance of talent and grit. The World No. 107 hit 11 aces, came back from being down 0-5 in the second set, saved a set point at 4-5, and eventually won in a tie-break.

Samantha Stosur and John Peers of Team Australia will play Team Britain’s Harriet Dart and Daniel Evans in the tie’s decisive mixed-doubles match.

The United Cup, a brand-new mixed-teams competition comprising 18 nations in Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney, is noteworthy. Two ATP singles matches, two WTA singles matches, and one mixed doubles match will make up ties that be played over two days.
