Malik Taimoor Masood, the Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, has honoured Pakistani boxer Usman Wazeer for bringing honour to his homeland on a global scale.

In September of this year, Wazeer became the first Pakistani to win the WBO World Youth title. He defeated Somphot Seesa of Thailand in the Highland Boxing Show in Bangkok.

The Astore-born fighter eliminated Seesa in the sixth round through technical knockout.

With the victory, Wazeer’s 9-0 professional boxing record is now undefeated.

Masood met Wazeer on Thursday and presented him a cheque of Rs1 million in order to acknowledge the latter’s achievement.

“Usman has made Pakistan proud with his performance,” said Masood. “The Punjab government is always ready to support sports heroes of Pakistan.”

The 22-year-old has already won the Middle East title of the World Boxing Council, the WBA Asia welterweight title, and the ABF Asian title.

Following his title win over Seesa, Wazeer declared, “We finally made history and I am now the First Ever WBO World Youth Champion out of Pakistan.”

“I want to express my gratitude to everyone for their unwavering love and support. He concluded, “Pakistan Zindabad.
