Zinedine Zidane
Zinedine Zidane unlikely to lead France anytime soon. Didier Deschamps will remain in his role as head coach of France at least through the conclusion of the Euro 2024 tournament.
The rumours that Zinedine Zidane will succeed his former teammate from Juventus after the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar have been put to rest, as the French newspaper Le Parisien reports that the former Marseille manager will remain in his position until the conclusion of Euro 2024. This news puts an end to the speculation that the rumour mill has been fueling.
This implies that the former manager of Real Madrid will have to wait before taking over as France’s head coach.
France advanced to the semifinals, where they will face Morocco, with a victory against England in their quarterfinal match on Sunday. The final score was France 2, England 1.
The defending world champions took the lead in the first half thanks to Aurélien Tchouaméni, but Harry Kane levelled the game for the Three Lions with a penalty kick just after the break.
However, because to Olivier Giroud’s late header and England captain Kane’s even later missed penalty shot, France was able to proceed to the semifinals of the competition.
The victory brought them one step closer to being the first team to successfully defend their FIFA World Cup title since Brazil in 1962.
The president of the French Football Federation, Nol Le Grat, had issued a kind of ultimatum to Didier Deschamps prior to the competition in Qatar. Le Grat told Deschamps that if he led the team to the semifinals or further, he would be free to make his own decisions about his future. Deschamps led the team to the semifinals.
Deschamps made the decision quite some time ago that, if France were to qualify for the 2024 European Championships, he would desire to play for the French national team in Germany.
The Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, Greece, and Gibraltar are the other teams that France will compete against in their Euro 2024 qualification group.
