Cody Rhodes now has a guaranteed spot in the WrestleMania 39 main event despite the 2023 Royal Rumble changing the futures of several stars.

The American Nightmare regrettably missed the Royal Rumble last year after tearing his pectoral muscle in the days before the Hell in a Cell premium live event.

Rhodes admitted to having reservations about recovering from the injury after winning the Royal Rumble, but he highlighted two WWE officials who kept him motivated in an interview with BT Sport.

“Even the most confident people, you know, have doubts. ‘Perhaps I didn’t have it.’ And I’ll tell you who two people held me in check: Nick Khan and Bruce Prichard. I’m not sure why they have reputations because they’ve been nothing but angels to me. When Nick Khan and Bruce see me, they don’t see Dusty; they see me. That’s significant to me.”

Cody kept thinking back to the day of the accident, recalling how he had anticipated that the discolouration would limit his time in the ring.

As a result, he was compelled to swallow his pride and have surgery, beginning his arduous journey to recovery. At the height of his professional wrestling career, he said he was “embarrassed” that something so tragic had occurred.

“I was at the pinnacle of my abilities. All the measurables that make you like, ‘Oh, this is working. This is for sale. People are tuning in, and I, for one, am doing it. ‘I’m going to do it.’ And then I got hurt bench pressing at my gym, which certainly involves a lot of wrestling, but I didn’t know “Rhodes elaborated.
