Cricket South Africa has confirmed the hiring of new head coaches for both the men’s Test and white-ball teams.

Having held numerous positions within Cricket South Africa, Shukri Conrad will lead the Test team for the ensuing four years.

Mark Boucher will be replaced as the Men’s ODI and T20 teams’ coach by Rob Walter.

Between 2009 and 2013, Walter served as the strength and conditioning coach for South Africa. He then relocated to New Zealand, where he most recently served as the Central Districts’ head coach.
Days after publicly withdrawing his application for the white-ball position, Lance Klusener was hired.

Conrad, who formerly served as the head coach of Uganda, the director of South Africa’s National Academy, and the head coach of the Men’s U19 team, has a plethora of expertise in the African cricket scene.

He also coached the U19s to victory in the CSA Provisional T20 Cup in October after leading them to success at last year’s ICC U19 Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

“We will constantly emphasise the value of Test cricket,” CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki said of Conrad’s appointment. “We are adding a number of Test games over the next four years.

“We are serious about being a Test-playing nation and we take the format very seriously. We have not consigned it to the margins because of T20, and we still regard ourselves as a very significant Test-playing nation. We want to invest in returning our Test team to the levels we expect of them.”

Enoch Nkew, Director of Cricket at the CSA, added: “We want to be in the top three (in the world), but we’re aiming for number one, even if it takes another three or four years.

“Over the next two years, we will be strengthening our position and expanding our talent pool.”
