The 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the Caribbean and the United States, is where Australia batsman David Warner hopes to cap his international career.

Warner has accumulated more over 17,000 runs over the course of a 14-year international career, becoming an expert in all three formats.

In an effort to make the Australian T20 World Cup team, the opening batter is making a comeback to compete in Australia’s largest T20 event, the Big Bash League (BBL), for the first time in nine years.

The batter said that this will be his final year playing for his country before the Sydney Thunder’s match against the Perth Scorchers on Friday.

“[This will] most likely be my last year of my international career. I’ve got my sights set on the 2024 [T20] World Cup as well, so finishing in the Americas, that’d be nice to top it off with a win over there, pending selection,” Warner said ahead of his return to the BBL.

He hasn’t played in the BBL in almost ten years, despite routinely participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during that period.

But when the Baggy Greens tour India in February and March before travelling to England for the enthralling Ashes series this summer, Warner’s attention will quickly shift.

And his outstanding double century against South Africa has lessened the strain as an opener in Andrew McDonald’s side as he prepares for his final year as a Test player.
