It should be noted that Marcus Rashford scored twice off the bench as Manchester United defeated Charlton 3-0 to advance to the League Cup semi-finals, while Newcastle defeated Leicester 2-0.

Erik ten Hag made eight changes to his United squad ahead of Saturday’s derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Antony, who was retained in the starting lineup from Friday’s 3-1 win over Everton, scored the game-winning goal on 21 minutes.

A 9,000-strong travelling crowd encouraged Charlton, and the third-tier team kept the tie alive even though Ten Hag brought on Casemiro, Rashford, and Christian Eriksen for the final 30 minutes off the bench.

In the 90th minute, Rashford scored for the eighth game in a row at Old Trafford, effectively sealing the victory for the hosts.

When Casemiro passed to the England international in stoppage time, he delivered a thunderous finish to bring his season total to 15.

Ten Hag stated, “We had to be in that semi-final and we did the job.

“I believe we needed to finish this earlier, but the goal was to get through, so congratulations to the team.”
