Joao Cancelo, a Manchester City defender, is reportedly ready to quit the club and join Bayern Munich on loan before the January transfer deadline.

Cancelo has been an important player for City recently, having played 36 times for the Premier League champions while making the PFA Premier League Team of the Year in each of the past two seasons.

Because he has dropped down City’s full-back pecking order behind players like Rico Lewis, Nathan Ake, and Kyle Walker, The Athletic reported that a move to Germany may now be accelerated.

The Independent reports that Bayern’s contract with the versatile 28-year-old is expected to contain a buy option for about €70 million (£61.6 million). The elite teams in the Bundesliga have long admired Cancelo’s skills.

If Cancelo completes a transfer before the winter transfer window closes on Tuesday, he would be qualified to make his debut for Bayern in either a DFB-Pokal match against Mainz on Wednesday or a Bundesliga trip to Wolfsburg on Sunday.
