Manchester United to face Charlton Athletic, Carabao Cup quarterfinal
Manchester United will play Charlton Athletic in the League Cup quarter-finals. Erik ten Hag’s side is on a seven-match winning streak (in competitive fixtures) and will look to extend that at home against the League One side.
The Red Devils will make their fifth appearance in the competition’s last-eight stage in the last seven seasons, aiming to win the trophy for the sixth time in our history.
Three days later, United plays rival Manchester City, which may allow Ten Hag to make several changes to the starting lineup against a team two divisions below the Premier League side.
Bruno Fernandes, who received two yellow cards, will be one of the most important players who will be unavailable. Donny Van de Beek is also out with an injury.
Younger players such as Facundo Pellistri, Kobbie Mainoo, and Zidane Iqbal were spotted in training with the main group ahead of the match, while Tom Heaton may be given a chance in goal.
Charlton Athletic, on the other hand, is expected to field the same starting lineup as against United.
In the previous round, the Addicks defeated Brighton and Hove Albion on penalties, defeating a Premier League side for the first time in over 15 years.
It will be hoped for a similar miracle at Old Trafford.
Manchester United and Charlton Athletic have met 59 times since 1932, with the Red Devils winning 38 times and the Addicks winning ten. The remaining games have all been drawn.
When the two teams last met, Charlton was still in the Premier League, and United won 2-0 on February 10, 2007.
