Mark Coles has returned as the head coach of Pakistan’s women’s team and will accompany the team on their current tour of Australia. The New Zealander succeeds interim head coach Saleem Jaffar, who was previously the team’s bowling coach, with fellow former Pakistan men’s international Taufeeq Umar as batting coach.

Coles has signed a one-year contract with the PCB, which is now run by a management team led by Najam Sethi. He previously served as head coach from 2017 to 2019, when he resigned due to family obligations.

“I’ve worked with Mark, and he’s the ideal coach for a women’s team: gentle but firm, friendly but strict,” Sethi said. “He is a well-respected coach who worked tirelessly for the team’s advancement during his previous tenure with Pakistan. Players only had positive things to say about him, so we decided to bring him back, and he will be joining the team in Australia immediately.”

Since the government dismissed former chair Ramiz Raja and his board by rescinding the 2019 constitution that the PCB was operating under and granting the Sethi-led 14-member committee full executive authority to work on reviving the 2014 constitution, the PCB has been run by Sethi.
