As a result of Najam Sethi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee, not giving his approval, Sharjeel Khan‘s name was not included in Pakistan’s ODI squad for the home series against New Zealand.

After five years, Pakistan’s opening batter Sharjeel was anticipating his comeback to the white-ball team. Shahid Khan Afridi, the interim head selector, claimed that they did not have approval from higher ups for his appointment.

Sharjeel Khan was included in the probable players list seeing his performance in domestic but was not retained in final squad as I did not get green signal from PCB chairman on his inclusion in the team,” Afridi said in a press conference after announcing squad in Karachi today.

Sharjeel left for Bangladesh to play in the Bangladesh Premier League after not being included in the final roster (BPL). In three games, he will represent the Khulna Titans.

“On my way to Bangladesh to fulfill my 3 match contract with Khulna Titans and will be leaving for dubai after that to put in some more work with my fitness trainer need prayers,” Sharjeel shared on Twitter.

After being implicated in the PSL spot-fixing controversy in 2017, Sharjeel was barred from participating in any cricket activity for five years. Due to the suspension of one-half of his sentence, he will be able to make a comeback in 2019.

Later, he participated in domestic and PSL tournaments and travelled with the Pakistani team to play T20 Internationals in Zimbabwe, South Africa, and the West Indies.

He played against Australia in Pakistan’s final 50-over match in January 2017.
