PSL 2023: PCB to hold three women’s exhibition matches
Najam Sethi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, stated on Friday that the organisation would host three exhibition games for women during the eighth Pakistan Super League (PSL).
When Sethi revealed the PSL 8 schedule, the development occurred.
In preparation for the Women’s League, which the management committee chose to separate from the PSL, the PCB would hold three matches for women.
“During the PSL 8, there will be three women’s matches, which will be a trial run for the main Women’s League. We are planning to launch it in September this year. Top women cricketers will also be part of the three matches. So, it will be quite an interesting and developing situation as the PSL progresses,” Sethi said.
The PCB chose to split the Women’s League from the PSL, according to sources who earlier spoke to Geo News.
The first Women’s Super League, which will be conducted as a distinct event from the PSL, has been given the window of September this year by the PCB.
There will be separate bids for each of the five franchise teams in the women’s league.
World-class female cricketers have already expressed interest in taking part in the PCB’s tournament.
It should be recalled that the PCB had previously planned to host the women’s league concurrently with the eighth season of the PSL, under the direction of former chairman Ramiz Raja.
In order to promote Pakistan’s favourable image through the competition, the national cricket regulating body intends to retain international women’s organisations connected to the United Nations, such as the Malala Foundation, on board for the women’s league.
The PSL’s opening ceremony will take place in Multan on February 13 before the competition’s first match between Multan Sultans, the 2021 tournament winners, and Lahore Qalandars, the reigning champions.
Exhibition matches schedule:
8 Mar – Pakistan Women’s League Exhibition Match 1, Pindi Cricket Stadium
10 Mar – Pakistan Women’s League Exhibition Match 2, Pindi Cricket Stadium
11 Mar – Pakistan Women’s League Exhibition Match 3, Pindi Cricket Stadium
