Sebastien Haller of Borussia Dortmund made his first official debut on Sunday against Augsburg after overcoming testicular cancer, and he called the reception he received from the crowd of over 80,000 supporters “unforgettable.”

The 82,000 spectators at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park rose to their feet as Haller walked off the bench to thunderous ovation.

Haller told the German channel  “The reception I received was something fantastic, memorable.”

“I was just excited to be here and to walk onto the field for the first time.

“This environment is something we can utilise as a squad to win games,” the coach said.

Just days after joining Dortmund in the summer of 2022, Haller received a testicular cancer diagnosis. He had several months of treatment, including four rounds of chemotherapy and two procedures.

Haller made his first competitive appearance since May of last year.

“There are still a few things to accomplish to attain my full fitness,” said Haller, who looked sharp in his 30 minutes on the pitch.

“For the time being, I’m only concerned with my work. You’ll see how it goes in the coming weeks and months.”
