Shubman Gill continued his extraordinary run in the 50-over format on Tuesday in Indore, where he scored his fourth One Day International (ODI) century.

The match was the third and final one between India and New Zealand. The Indian opener in the third One-Day International between India and New Zealand equaled Babar Azam’s record for most runs in a single innings.

In the third One-Day International at the Holkar Cricket Stadium against Tom Latham’s New Zealand team, opener Gill teamed up with India captain Rohit Sharma to score his second century of the three-match series.

In the third ODI, experienced opener Rohit broke his century drought and matched Ricky Ponting’s incredible achievement, while Gill, his companion in crime, tied Babar’s record by scoring his fourth century in the 50-over format.

The Indian opener scored 112 runs off 78 balls in a lightning-fast fashion. For the record, Gill has scored the most runs in a 3-match bilateral ODI series, matching Babar’s accomplishment.

In the three-match series against New Zealand, Gill has scored 360 runs. When Pakistani captain Babar’s top hitter scored 360 runs against the West Indies in 2016, the feat set a new global record.

The high-scoring match saw Gill surpass veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan with his fourth ODI century. The young Indian opener has scored four ODI hundreds in the 50-over format more quickly than any other player.

For the two-time world champions, Gill completed the unique feat in 21 innings while Dhawan smashed four hundreds in 24 innings.

However, during the series opener between India and New Zealand in Hyderabad, Gill broke numerous records. In ODI cricket, the 23-year-old at Hyderabad became the youngest batsman to slam a double century.

In the first ODI, India defeated New Zealand by a dramatic 12-run margin because to Gill’s 208-run innings off 149 balls.
