Usman Khawaja, the first batter for Australia, has been named the inaugural Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year.

Khawaja earned the Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year award for his outstanding play in Australian whites. The award was created by Cricket Australia (CA) in the wake of the renowned cricketer’s passing last year.

The Australian team’s left-handed opener, who made a comeback to Test cricket in January of last year, amassed the most runs in this format (1020) throughout the voting period. He dominated with a magnificent average of 78.46.

Khawaja expressed his emotions after collecting his prize.

“I truly believed that game at the SCG. I always believed it might be my final game. It was the last game I was playing “Khawaja revealed.

“It’s amazing how things can work out when you play with that mindset. I was only concerned with getting started, following the procedure correctly, and winning the game for the squad. “Life can be rather amusing at times,” he added.

The cricketer also recalled the Australian team’s 2017 journey to Pakistan.

“What we did as a team when we went to Pakistan. New Zealand, for example, had the option to travel, but they did not. “England had a chance to go, but they didn’t,” he reflected.

“All the way from CA up to the top, up to Pat Cummins, all the players – it was a sacrifice at some level because of the families, it was unknown. We hadn’t been back there in a long time, so for many people who don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, it was a difficult decision to make. Everyone who went deserves credit.

“I was obviously born in Pakistan. I understand what it means for Pakistan cricket. I understand what it means to Pakistan. I know what it means to my father since I grew up seeing his love of cricket and his support for Pakistan, and now Australia. “I think it speaks volumes about the squad and where we’re going for the guys to accomplish that,” he added.
