The Asia Cup 2023 venue will be decided upon definitively by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) at its Executive Board meeting the following month.

Pakistan was slated to host the Asia Cup in 2023, but after India declined to tour the nation due to lack of official approval, Pakistan’s ability to hold the event was called into question.

There has been no formal announcement from the ACC regarding shifting the event outside of Pakistan, despite repeated statements from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah that India will not tour Pakistan.

Najam Sethi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, attended an urgent meeting of the Asian Cricket Council on Saturday in Bahrain.

The Asia Cup’s future was discussed, among other things, but no decision was reached.

“The ACC had a constructive dialogue on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Board agreed to continue discussions on operations, timelines and any other specifics with a view to ensure the success of the tournament. An update on the matter would be taken on the next ACC Executive Board meeting to be held in March 2023,” said the ACC statement following the meeting.

There is a possibility that the competition could be shifted to a neutral location if India declines to travel to Pakistan for the event. The United Arab Emirates and Qatar are being examined as potential tournament neutral hosts.

Any actions taken once the competition is moved out of Pakistan, the PCB has informed the ACC conference, will be subject to the Government of Pakistan’s consent.
