Ajinkya Rahane of India has been signed by Leicestershire for a portion of the 2023 English domestic season, the Midlands county said on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old, who has led his nation in every format, is scheduled to move into the Grace Road residence in June and will be available for all eight first-class County Championship games as well as the entire One-Day Cup.

Rahane has scored 2,962 runs in 90 one-day internationals and 4,931 runs in 82 tests, including 12 centuries, even though it has been just over a year since he last played for India.

Without winning a game, Leicestershire placed last in the Second Division of the County Championship last year.

“I can’t wait to play alongside my new teammates and see Leicester’s lively city.”

“He (Rahane) comes with a lot of experience and a terrific work ethic,” Leicestershire director of cricket Claude Henderson remarked. It’s a fantastic chance for us to capitalize on.”

Sunil Narine of the West Indies has been re-signed by Surrey for the 2023 Blast.

When his obligations to the Kolkata Knight Riders in the lucrative Indian Premier League do not conflict, Narine will be available for all games.

In the Blast last year, Narine got 14 wickets at 5.96 runs per over and scored 199 runs at a strike rate of 163.11.

“With the team we had, getting knocked out in the quarter-final last year was a huge disappointment,” Narine said in a club statement. “I believe we can perform better this year and will do all in my power to get us to Finals Day.”
