Andy Farrell, head coach of Ireland, believes his team “must have a clear awareness of the precision of the strategy” if they are to defeat France in Saturday’s Six Nations encounter in Dublin.

The match between the top two rated teams in the world has been regarded as a potential tournament decider.

Farrell stated his team should go into the meeting “totally believing in what we are trying to achieve”.

“We need to put up an 80-minute performance,” Ireland’s coach said.

“We need to play our own game and be brave enough to take our game to them and ask questions of their defence,” Farrell continued.

“Their defense is crucial, and breaking them down as a team is difficult. We’re all looking for ‘scoring’ defenses. This is an important aspect of their game and the staff that they must use.”

Ireland, now ranked first in the world, is attempting to win a record 13th game in a row at home after opening their season with a dominant 34-10 victory over Wales last weekend.

Under Fabien Galthie, France has won 14 straight games, a record. In the 2021 Six Nations, France was the last team to defeat Ireland in the Aviva Stadium.

Additionally, they are the only top-tier team Farrell has yet to defeat since he took over following the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Farrell is pleased with the work that Galthie has accomplished, despite the fact that France had to work hard to defeat Italy on the opening weekend, 29-24.
