Asad Shafiq, a well-known Pakistani cricket player, has been admitted to the Karachi University’s BS in Health, Physical Education, and Sports Sciences (HPESS) programme.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, Asad Shafiq met with KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi in the VC Secretariat along with HPESS Chairman Professor Dr. Basit Ansari.

The most prolific tonne scorer at the test level, he has produced nine hundreds when batting at number six and has amassed 12 test centuries thus far in his career.

Sir Garfield Sobers, who had previously held the record by scoring eight hundreds at the same number for West Indies, had been surpassed by him.

Asad claimed in his meeting with the KU vice chancellor that his devotion to playing domestic and international cricket, national service, and sports prevented him from continuing his education after graduating.

He claimed that right now is the ideal moment for him to do his graduate work. He hoped that his cricketing teammates would soon start up their studies again.

In the meantime, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi welcomed the test cricketer to the University of Karachi and noted that it is a positive sign and trend that athletes are now going to school to pursue their academic goals and degrees.

This year, the former captain of the national cricket team Mohammad Hafeez also enrolled in classes at the same University of Karachi department where Sarfaraz Ahmed, the Champions Trophy winner, and Saud Shakeel, a newcomer to test cricket, are already students.
