After suffering a knee injury, Tottenham’s captain Hugo Lloris will be out for six to eight weeks.

In Sunday’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City, the 36-year-old sustained a ligament injury.

Tottenham’s head coach, Antonio Conte, will be extremely saddened by the injury because his team’s schedule over the next three weeks includes games against West Ham United and Chelsea in London derbies as well as a matchup with AC Milan in the Champions League round of 16.

They play Leicester City in the league on Saturday before going to AC Milan for the opening leg on Tuesday.

Spurs have as a back-up player Fraser Forster, a former Southampton player and England international.

Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman, academy players who neither have much senior-level experience, are other candidates.

Spurs, who are presently sixth in the Premier League, are battling for a Champions League position for the following season.

Forster, a free agent who joined Spurs in the summer, has only appeared in one Premier League match for the team—a 2-2 tie with Brentford on Boxing Day.

This month, Lloris announced his retirement from international play after helping France win the 2018 World Cup.

He has seven clean sheets to his name in 21 league outings this season.
