Jesse Marsch been fired as Leeds manager on Monday after failing to prevent the team from slipping into the Premier League relegation zone.

After seven league games without a victory, Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Sunday dropped them just one spot above the bottom three.

Leeds United issued a statement saying, “Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been dismissed of his duties.”

Leeds fans demanded Marsch’s firing after the team lost to Forest since the team hadn’t won a Premier League game since November 5.

After just one year in command at Elland Road, they got their wish just 24 hours later when the 49-year-old was stripped of his duties.

“Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was vital in keeping the team in the Premier League on the final day of the previous season,” according to the statement.

“The process of choosing a new head coach is underway,” it continued.

Marsch, who was signed on a three-year contract to replace the fired Marcelo Bielsa, leaves with his 17th-placed team only a goal difference away from relegation.

Marsch’s hiring at Elland Road was met with skepticism, with some claiming the American’s lack of Premier League experience made his hire a risk.

He has worked as a manager for the New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg, and RB Leipzig.

When Marsch joined Leeds in February 2022, they were in 16th place. On the final day of the season, they defeated Brentford to avoid being relegated.

After that remarkable escape, though, they were unable to advance, winning just four times in 20 Premier League games this season and losing 10, which fueled fan rage.

Prior to the start of the current season, Marsch was handicapped by the sales of key players Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.
