Manchester United rallied from a two-goal deficit to snag a point in a thrilling Roses match thanks to the combined efforts of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, preventing manageress Leeds from achieving a rare Old Trafford victory.

The hosts appeared to be doomed when Raphael Varane put Leeds two up after Wilfried Gnonto had given them the lead in the first minute by putting Crysencio Summerville’s cutback into his own net.

However, Rashford cut the margin in half by heading in an inviting cross from Diogo Dalot, and Sancho, who had only recently returned to first-team action after overcoming physical and mental problems, scored his first Premier League goal since September by driving home from 10 yards after Luke Shaw’s initial shot had been blocked.

Leeds, who fired manager Jesse Marsch on Monday, would have been severely penalised with anything less than a point, and in the period in which the hosts scored two goals, they also had Brenden Aaronson hit the post.

The outcome puts them over West Ham into 16th place and out of the relegation zone by one point, albeit after this outstanding game, the Elland Road rematch in four days will be something to look forward to.
