Sharjeel Khan discussed his batting powerplay approach for PSL 8
Sharjeel Khan, the opening batsman for the Karachi Kings, has talked about his batting strategy in front of the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The aggressive left-hander, who is notorious for going after the opposition, thinks that the first six overs of an inning are very important in determining how the game will turn out.
“I believe 70 to 80 per cent of the match is dictated by how the first six overs go. “I’ve learned over the years that the team with the most boundaries wins the match, so I try to milk the opening six overs,” Sharjeel was quoted as saying in a news release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday.
“I am also wanting to establish a good platform for my side and if I continue to bat after the end of the first six overs then I look to make sure that I keep that momentum.
“It is critical not to lose sight of the fundamentals while attempting to assess the situation. So I normally aim to take four balls or an over since every day is different and the conditions are different. Whether I’m facing a spinner or a pacer, my strategy is the same: assess the situation and then go for the attack, which frequently benefits the team as well.”
Since his return to the PSL in 2020, Sharjeel has played for the Karachi Kings and has averaged a boundary every 4.5 balls.
The PSL 8 opening ceremony will take place in Multan on February 13 before the tournament’s first match between the defending champions Lahore Qalandars and the 2021 champion Multan Sultans; the closing ceremony and final will take place on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.
Lahore Qalandars will try to become the first team to win consecutive championships, while Islamabad United will try to make history by winning the trophy three times.
Eleven games will be played in Rawalpindi, nine games each in Karachi and Lahore, and five games in Multan.
