Shubman Gill, India’s young batting star, has been chosen ICC Player of the Month for January 2023 following his stellar performance across forms last month.

“Gill was nominated with New Zealand’s Devon Conway and fellow countryman Mohammed Siraj after a superb run in white-ball cricket in January,” the ICC announced on its website.

Last month, in the opening ODI of the three-game series against New Zealand in Hyderabad, the right-handed batter hammered a double century. In the nail-biting thriller, India won by 12 runs, he hit 209 from 149 balls.

Along with Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam, who previously held the record against the West Indies in 2016 against a three-game ODI series, he went on to score 40 not out and 112 in the other two games and total 360 runs in the series.

The 23-year-old also scored his first T20 century last month, when he blasted an unbeaten 126 to help India defeat New Zealand by 168 runs in the decisive match to win the T20 International series.
