Sir Viv Richards is likely to return as Quetta Gladiators coach
Sir Viv Richards, the legendary West Indian batsman, is expected to return as coach of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Quetta Gladiators.
Richards has been a member of the team since the league’s inception in 2016.
“We have applied for Sir Viv Richards’ visa but there are some issues with process. “However, we have filed all of the necessary paperwork and are hopeful that he will join the team soon,” team manager Azam Khan said.
‘Sir Viv Richards is also interested in joining the squad,’ he added.
With just one victory in three games, Quetta is ranked fifth in the standings. Today (Tuesday), in Karachi, they will play the reigning champions Lahore Qalandars.
The team under Sarfaraz Ahmed lost their opening game to Multan Sultans but came back to beat Karachi Kings in their subsequent match. But in their third PSL 8 match against Peshawar Zalmi on Monday, they once more lost.
It should be noted that PSL 8’s championship match and closing ceremony will take place on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host the playoffs.
In addition to receiving the Supernova Trophy, the victor will also receive a check for Rs120 million, while the losers will each receive a check for Rs48 million.
Lahore Qalandars will try to become the first team to win consecutive championships, while Islamabad United will try to make history by winning the trophy three times.
Eleven games will be played in Rawalpindi, nine games each in Karachi and Lahore, and five games in Multan.
