The 17-person Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) squad for the two-match Test series against New Zealand was unveiled on Friday.

Dimuth Karunaratne will serve as Sri Lanka’s captain for the series, which is set to begin on March 9.

Part of the ICC World Test Championship is the series. After Australia and India, Sri Lanka is the third team that has a chance to get to the Test Championship final.

With 53.33% of the possible points currently in their favour, Sri Lanka must defeat New Zealand 2-0 to proceed to the final match. Yet, they will also need positive results from other games.

Sri Lanka has historically struggled in New Zealand, only succeeding twice in its previous 19 efforts. The team has, nevertheless, performed admirably in Test matches under head coach Chris Silverwood.

Sri Lanka’s pace options for the tour include Lahiru Kumara, Chamika Karunaratne, Kasun Rajitha, Asitha Fernando, Milan Rathnayake, and Vishwa Fernando.

An all-format series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand will take place, featuring two Test matches, three ODIs, and three T20Is.

From March 9 to March 13, Christchurch will host the first Test. From March 17 to 21, the second Test will be played in Wellington.
