Bangladesh upset England to win the second Twenty20 international by four wickets and clinch the series 2-0 thanks in large part to Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s brilliance with both bat and ball.

Mehidy helped the hosts bowl out England for 117 with a career-best 4-12 before smashing 20 off 16 balls to help Bangladesh reach 120-6 in 18.5 overs.

Bangladesh has now defeated every Test-playing nation in at least one series in one format, and Najmul Hossain led the way with 46 not out at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

In Chittagong, the first game of the series was won by the home team by six wickets.

England, who were given the opportunity to bat first, struggled to stay in the game after losing their way in the middle of their innings due to the low, slow surface in Mirpur.

Mehidy was joined by wickets from Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, and Mustafizur Rahman.

Ben Duckett led the way with 28 points, and Phil Salt finished with 25 off 19 shots.

Taskin removed opener Dawid Malan for five but Salt and Moeen Ali showed positive intent to put up 34 runs for the second wicket.

After that, the visitors lost Salt, captain Jos Buttler (four), and Ali (15) in quick succession, ending their chances of scoring a large total.

Then, Mehidy struck twice in a single over to get rid of Sam Curran (12) and Chris Woakes (0), preventing England from making a late comeback.

In their response, Bangladesh lost both of their openers, Liton Das (nine) and Rony Talukdar (nine), cheaply, but teenager Towhid Hridoy scored 17, bringing the innings back into balance.

After a 41-run stand, Najmul and Mehidy gave Bangladesh the upper hand. With a few late wickets, England had a chance to win as Jofra Archer caused mayhem and finished with 3-13.

The visiting team was stopped by Najmul’s unbeaten 47-ball innings, which included three boundaries.

After two consecutive fours off Chris Jordan in the nineteenth over, Taskin sealed the victory.

On Tuesday, the same venue will host the third and final game of the series.

The previous three-match one-day international series was won by England 2-1.

The matches are crucial preparation for England on South Asian surfaces for the ODI World Cup later this year in India.
