Erling Haaland, a renowned striker for Norway, suffered a groyne injury during Manchester City’s FA Cup quarterfinal victory against Burnley. The Norwegian Football Federation stated on Tuesday that Haaland would miss the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Spain and Georgia.

Haaland, who has scored 21 goals in 23 games for Norway, has been in excellent form this year. Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in June, he has scored 42 goals.

“Following testing and inspections yesterday, it became evident that he will not play against Spain or Georgia,” national team doctor Ola Sand said. “It is preferable that he receives medical attention in the club.”

Group A includes Norway, Cyprus, Georgia, Scotland, and Spain. On Saturday, they play Spain in Malaga before travelling to Georgia on Tuesday.

“Erling was devastated when he realised he couldn’t play for the team,” says national team coach Stale Solbakken. “Fortunately, this group still has plenty of confidence, talent, and unity to earn points in the upcoming games.”

With his hat-trick against Burnley, Haaland has now scored at least three goals in six of his 19 games at the Etihad this year.

“It doesn’t matter, every goal for the team means a lot to me,” Haaland remarked following the game.

“To win 6-0 today against a solid Burnley team is incredible. So I’m overjoyed, and the next game is now at Wembley Stadium.

“I’m a striker who enjoys scoring goals!” But my priority is not to score goals, but to create chances; when you create chances, there is a good probability that you will score a goal.”

Haaland claims that Pep Guardiola’s club is peaking at the ideal point in the season since they have gone unbeaten in ten games in all competitions.

“I believe we’ve reached the point in the season where we should be at our best,” he remarked.

“Here is where things are decided. Every game must be performed flawlessly. The last two games have been championships.

“That is precisely what we have been doing. I’m pleased and proud of myself. I’m not sure what more to say.

“It’ll be fantastic [at Wembley], and we’ll have to go again.”
