Liam Plunkett, a World Cup champion for England, and Aaron Finch, a former Australia captain, are two players who have signed up for a new T20 event in the United States.

Together with former South Africa captain Quinton de Kock, Batter Finch, 36, is one of six foreign players.

Plunkett, a 37-year-old pace bowler, qualifies as a domestic player because his wife is American.

In the 2019 World Cup final victory against New Zealand at Lord’s, he made his last of 89 one-day appearances for England.

After leaving Surrey, Plunkett joined up for the competition—the first US professional T20 league—in 2021, but the league’s initially scheduled 2022 debut was postponed by a year.

He has shown interest in representing the US and has played for the Philadelphians of the Minor League Cricket’s Eastern Division.

In the domestic player selection held on Sunday, each of the six teams selected nine US-based players, in addition to six foreign acquisitions. More players are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Together with Plunkett and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, Finch, who announced his retirement from international cricket last month, will serve as the Unicorns’ captain.

De Kock, a wicketkeeper, will play for Seattle Orcas alongside Mitchell Marsh, another all-rounder from Australia, while Wanindu Hasaranga, a spin bowler all-rounder from Sri Lanka, and Anrich Nortje, a fast bowler from South Africa, were both signed by DC Freedom.

The competition takes held in Dallas, Texas, from July 13 to July 30.

In 2019, USA Cricket joined the International Cricket Council (ICC) as an associate member, with the goal of becoming a full member by 2030.

The ICC is also attempting to get cricket into the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.
