As captain of Pakistan for the T20I series against Afghanistan, Shadab Khan is eager to take the helm of a young squad.

Khan, who will captain the squad in place of regular captain Babar Azam, claimed in a video interview released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday that the series against Afghanistan will be just as thrilling and captivating as the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8.

“Thanks to Allah for giving me this opportunity,” said Shadab who recently got married to the daughter of Pakistan’s former Test cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq.

“As you know, it’s always an honor to represent Pakistan as a player. Being a captain this time brings more excitement and responsibilities too. I will try my best to lead my team from the front and make this series exciting,” he mentioned.

The brand-new skipper praised the PSL 8 performances of amateur and discarded cricketers who gained selection to the national squad.

“Congratulations to all of them for making it into the national team. I am sure they will make this series interesting for all of us,” said Khan while appealing to Pakistani fans to show their support like always.

The PCB released a 15-man roster for the T20I series against Afghanistan on March 13. Major cricket players, including captain Babar, were given breaks by the cricket board.

The PCB announced an inexperienced squad for a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan that is slated for the end of March in Sharjah, keeping in mind the national team’s busy schedule for this year.

Rest has been provided for Babar, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, and Mohammad Rizwan. For the Afghanistan T20I series, Khan, who had served as Pakistan’s vice-captain in the white-ball format, was named captain.

The 15-man team includes players from this year’s PSL, including as Imad Wasim, Saim Ayub, Azam Khan, Ihsanullah, and Zaman Khan.
