Basit Ali, a former Test cricketer, spoke out in Ahmad Shahzad’s defence.

The cricketer-turned-analyst claimed on Twitter that Quetta Gladiators made a mistake by not selecting Ahmad as the opening batter for Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8.

After being fully healthy for the season, Ahmad, who amassed 1077 runs in 45 PSL games he played from 2016 to 2020, was overlooked in the PSL 2023 draught.

He was selected for the PSL in 2023, but no franchise expressed interest in him. The replacement draught didn’t even include the right-handed batter.

On social media, Ahmad’s followers frequently interacted with him and inquired about his PSL 2023 selection. Ahmad recently wrote on Twitter that he is reminded of “SABR” after being passed over for the current PSL season.

In an interview with GeoSuper.tv prior to the PSL 8 draught in December, Ahmad expressed confidence that he would be picked up by one of the two franchises.

Ahmad, who was injured and missed PSL 7, was most likely picked up by Gladiators.
