Peshawar Zalmi defeated Islamabad United by 12 runs in the first Eliminator of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight. Azmatullah Omarzai provided an early wicket to Peshawar, but Alex Hales and Sohaib Maqsood put their team in the driving seat with 115 runs for the second wicket.

Aamer Jamal broke the century stand with a yorker, and Faheem Ashraf was run out after a direct hit from Jamal. Peshawar took control of the match with clever bowling and regular wickets.

Irshad was the pick of the Peshawar bowlers with figures of 2-18 in four overs, while Babar Azam and Saim Ayub stitched 60 runs in 4.4 overs.

Mohammad Wasim Jr provided a much-needed breakthrough to Islamabad after Ayub miscued a pull shot and was caught at mid-on by Faheem Ashraf.

Azam scored 64 runs in 39 balls with the help of 10 fours, becoming the fastest player to score 9,000 runs in T20 cricket. Mohammad Haris also provided impetus to the innings with a brisk cameo of 34 in 17 balls.

Peshawar could only score 35 runs in the last five overs, while losing four wickets. In yesterday’s Qualifier, Multan Sultans defeated Lahore Qalandars to book their spot in the final of PSL 8.
