PCB launches probe into allegations of conflict of interest in team selection
A committee has been established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to investigate recent claims of a possible “conflict of interest” in team selection.
A five-member fact-finding committee has been established by the PCB in response to media accusations, and its primary responsibility is to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
Allegations were made against Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, who resigned earlier today (October 30), following revelations that he owns stock in a business controlled by Talha Rehmani, the agent for players.
Given that Rehmani represents a number of Pakistan’s top cricket players, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, this revelation raised questions about possible conflicts of interest.
There are also questions over whether Inzamam’s dual responsibilities as Chief Selector and shareholder in a company that represents elite cricket players could affect the way players are chosen.
In the interim, this committee’s main objective is to investigate the allegations regarding a conflict of interest that have surfaced in relation to the team selection procedure.
The body will promptly deliver its report and recommendations to the PCB Management.
It should be mentioned that Inzamam was named chief selector of the men’s national team on August 7 by Zaka Ashraf, who had just been appointed as head of the PCB Management Committee in July.
Teams were chosen under his leadership for the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, the Asia Cup, and the Afghanistan series.
