In a recent interview with Megan Olivi at UFC Vegas 82, UFC star Dustin Poirier expressed his eagerness to face his old rival Conor McGregor once again in what could be their fourth encounter. Poirier, who secured back-to-back victories against McGregor, is determined to “shut him up for good” if the two meet at the anticipated UFC 300 event slated for April 2024.

“Even if I slap his a** around again he’s still going to be chatting, so, we’ll see,” Poirier stated confidently.

Despite the potential McGregor bout, Poirier remains uncertain about his next opponent if the matchup doesn’t materialize. Speculating on potential matchups, he mentioned Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev, indicating that Justin Gaethje might be next in line for a title shot.

“If [Charles] Oliveira’s getting the fight against with [Islam] Makhachev, [Justin] Gaethje’s going to be next,” Poirier explained. “He’s going to sit out and wait for that because he’s guaranteed himself a shot, so how long is that going to take, you know? So, I’ve got to fight somebody; it just depends on who the biggest fight I can make is.”

Poirier, who has been sidelined since July 2023 following a head-kick knockout loss to Gaethje, is determined to make a comeback. He has set his sights on UFC 300, considering it a significant event and a chance for redemption.

“I’ve been thinking about [UFC] 300. I think that’s a big event, you know?” Poirier expressed. “Like I said in another interview, I missed [UFC] 200, I’m not going to be around for [UFC] 400, so that would be like, pretty cool for me.”

It’s worth noting that McGregor, who hasn’t competed since his fight against Poirier, spent nearly two years out of action following a leg break at UFC 264 in July 2021. The potential matchup between Poirier and McGregor at UFC 300 promises to be a highly anticipated and pivotal moment in their storied rivalry.
