In the wake of Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, has initiated a series of crucial meetings with former cricketers and key stakeholders to address the team’s shortcomings and plan for the future.

Ashraf recently met with cricketing legends Younis Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, and Sohail Tanvir to gather their insights into the team’s lackluster display during the mega event. Seeking a comprehensive evaluation, the Chairman will also hold discussions with the head of the PCB Technical Committee, Misbah-ul-Haq, to further understand the technical aspects contributing to the team’s struggles.

In a significant move, Zaka Ashraf is set to engage with former cricketers Umar Gul, Azhar Ali, Saeed Ajmal, Mushtaq Ahmed, Aqib Javed, Mohsin Khan, and Moin Khan. The agenda includes deliberations on potential changes to the coaching staff, along with legal consultations regarding their contracts.

One of the focal points of the meetings will be the exploration of different captaincy options for red-ball and white-ball formats, indicating a potential shift in leadership roles within the team.

With Pakistan’s next assignment being the Test tour of Australia, where they are scheduled to play three matches, a new selection committee will be tasked with choosing the squad. The decision to replace the interim selection committee, appointed after the resignation of Inzamam-ul-Haq as Chief Selector, includes the removal of Tauseef Ahmed and Wajahatullah Wasti, heads of the senior and junior selection committees, respectively.

The reshuffling of selection committees raises questions about who will take charge of selecting the side for the upcoming tour Down Under, adding an element of suspense to Pakistan’s preparations for the challenging series.

As cricket enthusiasts await the outcomes of these crucial meetings, the PCB’s proactive approach signals a commitment to revitalizing the national team and restoring its competitive edge on the international stage.
